To help develop and deploy new carbon capture materials, energy multinational TotalEnergies has teamed with Quantinuum, the world’s largest quantum computing company. The companies are working to use quantum computing to help design metal organic frameworks (MOFs), which could be a game changer for carbon capture. Quantum computing could potentially do what even supercomputers cannot: simulate highly complex MOFs with enough accuracy to accelerate their development. The result could be MOFs with the stability, scalability, reaction times and safety to enable wide-scale deployment.
