CBN (Community Broadband Network) works with local authorities, businesses and NGOs, both in the UK and internationally, to help develop transformational and sustainable digital infrastructure. It brings together some of the UK’s top experts in telecommunications strategy, business development, technical implementation, and mutual structures. Dig Once Trusts: Deploying fibre-duct infrastructure at minimal cost. Following the example of US cities, it is possible to build a comprehensive fibre infrastructure at low cost by installing ducting during development and construction work. By creating a neutral body that can hold the ducting in trust, and make it available to stakeholders for rent, it’s possible to overcome some of the obstacles that have prevented progress in the UK.

What characteristics are essential to the successful rollout of an open contracting policy? This is the key question behind research commissioned by the Sunlight Foundation and the Open Contracting Partnership (OCP) on the experiences of cities in making public contracting data easily accessible and useful to all. Sharing this information openly can help governments build public trust, improve the effectiveness of their own agencies, and empower the private sector to make wiser investments.

This case study explores the potential of nocturnal heritage as a driver for urban regeneration in Valparaíso’s historic port district. Although designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003, the area has faced physical and social decline, losing residents and commercial activity. Conducted in 2019 by the Municipality of Valparaíso in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the study proposes a revitalisation strategy centred on reactivating symbolic nighttime spaces such as historic bars and the local market. It argues that the night holds cultural, economic, and social value, and that a new governance approach is needed to harness these assets and bring life back to the historic quarter after dark.

In light of an increasing number of cybersecurity events, organizations can improve resilience by ensuring that their risk management processes include comprehensive recovery planning. Identifying and prioritizing organization resources helps to guide effective plans and realistic test scenarios. This preparation enables rapid recovery from incidents when they occur and helps to minimize the impact on the organization and its constituents. Additionally, continually improving recovery planning by learning lessons from past events, including those of other organizations, helps to ensure the continuity of important mission functions. This publication provides tactical and strategic guidance regarding the planning, playbook developing, testing, and improvement of recovery planning. It also provides an example scenario that demonstrates guidance and informative metrics that may be helpful for improving resilience of information systems.Part of the Computer Security Resource Center (CSRC). One of the four primary use cases for open contracting is promoting integrity. This introductory guide shows how countries can reference their procurement data against a set of over 150 suspicious behavior indicators, or “red flags.” These flags occur at all points along the entire chain of public procurement-from planning to tender to award to the contract, itself, to implementation-and not just during the award phase, which tends to be the main focus in many procurement processes.

A Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) is a method for conducting an in-depth review of how data is collected and managed for a program or project. It asks questions about the collection, use, sharing, security and access controls for data. It also asks for information about policies, training and documentation that govern use of the technology and data collected. The PIA responses are used to determine privacy risks associated with a project as well as ways to reduce some or all of those risks. The City of Seattle has committed to publishing all PIAs on an outward facing website for public access.

This not-for-profit safety initiative began in Lincolnshire in 2016 and was adopted by the Metropolitan Police and Safer Sounds in London. It enables individuals who feel vulnerable or unsafe during a night out in licensed venues to discreetly request help by asking staff for “Angela”. Staff trained through WAVE (Welfare And Vulnerability Engagement) are then able to guide the person to a safe space, call them a taxi, contact venue security or the police, all in a subtle manner. The scheme empowers patrons across gender identities and backgrounds to seek support confidently in nightlife settings.
